Dr. Patrick Lockwood

Dr. Patrick Lockwood serves as a Clinical Consultant for Elevate Wellness Center and New Spirit Recovery and is also a Professor at California Lutheran University. With over 16 years of experience in the field, he provides more than 12 hours per week of clinical supervision, crisis management support, treatment planning, and direct therapy services across facilities. Dr. Lockwood remains available for individual, group, and family sessions, as well as AMA blocking when clients attempt to be discharged prematurely.

Dr. Lockwood’s philosophy of care is simple: let’s do what works (per the research), and let’s do what’s ethical. Because patients come from different cultures and have very different personalities, it’s important not to oversimplify people or their mental health concerns. We create a mutually agreed upon, well-defined, and achievable goal—think of it like a clinical “experiment.” Together, we form a hypothesis about why you’re struggling, outline what an experiment would look like to test that hypothesis, and then run it. Either it worked (and why?), or it didn’t (and why not?).

What motivates his work is also simple: “being of service. Whatever I can do with my education and skills to help, I will try. And yes—I’m a giant nerd, which is probably why I also love teaching.”
